Whew, finally my blog is back!

My site was down for a few days because 1. I didn’t fully understand what domain and hosting meant 2. When I finally read about it, it was too late and the blog was already deleted, and 3. It will require a $150-payment for me to restore the site and I can’t afford it.

A year ago, I got my domain name on a sale (less than Php 600 for everything for a year!).  I bought it without really trying to understand how the process works.  As long as I can write and post my pictures, I’m good.  So when I received a notice that my domain will expire, I renewed right away.  It was pricier compared to last year but I didn’t mind that much.  What I did not know is that you still need a hosting plan and the domain renewal is not enough for the site to work properly.

Learned the hard way and went through a lot of phone calls, chats, and twitter DMs.  IMPORTANT: Always, always back-up important files.  When this site got deleted, everything just disappeared.  All my photos and blog posts were gone.  I immediately thought of my Taiwan travel blogs and how much effort and time I spent on it, I almost cried.  I got to know about it when I was at work so I couldn’t concentrate, haha. I asked help from friends but they asked me the same thing– where did I buy a hosting plan, if I backed up my posts, etc.  It was a mess– I had no idea what they were talking about.  Now I know what to do!!

After so many attempts (and failed requests), Godaddy’s admin at twitter finally approved my site restoration for free!!! I just have to renew my wordpress hosting and everything will be back to normal.  I’m crying because I spent a lot of money already (I have another blog btw, HAHA) and I couldn’t afford to pay for a whole years’ worth of blog hosting.  I had it renewed monthly so until my website is still here, I will try to update as often as I can!

I made this blog to write down my thoughts and keep track of what’s happening to my life– good or bad.  Not a lot of people knew I’m into blogging and sometimes, I prefer it that way.  Blogging is therapeutic for me so I don’t think I’ll stop doing this for a long, long time.  I just hope I will have enough money in the future for this hobby 😛 It’s much more expensive than I expected, heee.

  1. Sad to hear that but extremely happy that they let you restore your site for free! I’m also not quite sure how hosting works. Just glad Ate Grace of Grace.PH is hosting my site. Haha. If it helps, you can google your old blog post then search for the cache version of your posts if everything gets deleted because of one thing or another. Now that you’re back, it would also be helpful to monthly back-up your blog. 🙂

    1. Thank you for the tips, I’ll check it out! 🙂 Waaah, I’ll check her site too. If you don’t mind, may I ask how much are you paying for the hosting? 🙂
